When the Primavera Sound Festival lineup was announced back in December, one artist in particular made me gasp: Ivy Queen. I wasn’t expecting a reggaeton legend to be featured in one of Spain’s (and the world’s) biggest festivals, sharing the bill with acts like Erykah Badu and Tame Impala. But 2019 is the year of the self-proclaimed “New Normal” at Primavera, and it shows, with women and urban Latinx artists front and center among the 200+ artists who will be playing in 8 stages and different venues in Barcelona over the course of a week.
In this edition of LATINXTRANSFER, a look at some of the Latinx artists who will be performing at Primavera Sound 2019 including Nathy Peluso, DJ Playero, Cuco and Empress Of. There are really too many Latinxs to showcase in a 1-hour show, be sure to check out Hurricane G and Tony Touch and others as part of Yung Beef’s curated urban stage, for example. See you at el Forum!
